At the Richard Pate School we are so lucky to have our very own beautiful, exceptionally large woodland – ‘Minett’s Wood’. Our woodland, which covers approximately three acres, is made up of a wide range of fully established trees including oak, maple, silver birch, willow, beech and hawthorn, making it the perfect surroundings to allow the children to be immersed in nature. It is also home to our very own 8 foot resident badger who was lovingly woven with willow by our whole school!
All children within Prep take part in weekly Forest School sessions come rain or shine! We have two fully qualified Forest School leaders at RPS who are committed to leading Forest School as a child-centred inspirational learning process, that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. It is a long-term programme which supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting.
Our Prep children are always excited about their weekly Forest School sessions. They enjoy socialising with their friends in a different environment, gathering together at ‘base camp’ and experiencing the changes which come with each new season. With guidance and support, they learn how to use tools safely and effectively whilst working together to problem solve, building resilience and allowing them to develop into independent learners.
