Prime Areas of Learning

NURSERY

From 3 years

The Richard Pate School Nursery is dedicated to providing the highest possible standards and early years care and education.

The Nursery is located next to the main school in its own grounds where the children enjoy free flow between the very well-resourced inside and outside areas.

We are registered with the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) and are regularly inspected under the same criteria as those used for OFSTED inspections. In March 2020, we were delighted to be rated ‘Excellent’ in all areas.

All children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. The four guiding principles that underpin this are:

  • The Unique Child
  • Positive Relationships
  • Enabling Environments
  • Learning and Development

We support each child across three prime areas of learning:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language

And four specific areas:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

We believe that well planned play is a key way in which children learn. We therefore ensure that children have plenty of play opportunities with effective support from adults. The children play and explore in their environment and we encourage them to ‘have a go’ and become creative thinkers with their own ideas.

We provide a safe, challenging, stimulating, caring and sharing environment which is sensitive to the needs of each individual child, including children with additional needs.
