A Typical Day in Juniors

Children arrive at school between 8.15 and 8.45 am and gather together with their friends in the playground before heading in to start the day.

The school day begins at 8.50am with registration in pupils’ classrooms. This gives pupils a daily opportunity to organise their materials and discuss any issues with their class teacher.

At 8.55am pupils begin their lessons, with each one lasting 30 minutes. Junior assemblies take place on Tuesday for Years 3 and 4 and Thursdays for Years 5 and 6. There is a whole school assembly on a Friday.

The subject areas covered throughout the week are: Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, Drama, Art, Design and Technology, Information Communication Technology / Computing, Music, Religious Education, French, Latin (Year 5 and 6 only) PE, Games, and PSHE. Swimming also takes place during the year for each year group.

At 10.55am it’s break time and a chance for some fresh air, a snack and a drink and time to play with friends.

Pupils have their second set of lessons of the day before lunch. Pupils may be mastering their Mathematics; developing their skills in English or engaging in one of the many wonderful subjects on offer.

Pupils make their way to the Dining Hall for lunch, during which time they have a wide choice from the menu which is cooked on site. Lunchtime is also a great opportunity for pupils to take part in a variety of co-curricular activities, such as Language Explorers, Multi Sports, Computing, Board Games, as well as playing in the playground or on the field.

In the afternoon, pupils have their final lessons of the day with a short break time sandwiched in between their studies. At 3.40pm, pupils gather their belongings and get ready for the end of the school day.

After School Club is available for pupils until 5.30pm every evening and Junior pupils take part in a wide range of after school clubs and activities including hockey, rugby football, netball, tennis and cricket.

Homework is set for Junior pupils every evening and gives them an opportunity to consolidate their learning from the day.
