A Typical Day in Nursery

We have a rolling arrival time from 8.30 until 9 am. The children arrive, hang their coat on their peg, sanitise their hands and choose an activity to do whilst waiting for their friends to arrive.

Once everyone has arrived for the day the register is taken and all the children say a big ‘Good Morning’ to each other and the staff.

During the morning the children engage in adult-led activities and they also have the opportunity to self-choose. The Nursery operates free-flow between inside and outdoors and this allows the children access to a wide range of resources.

Throughout each term the Nursery chooses an exciting topic to help the children engage more deeply with their learning, think for themselves and expand their communication skills. The Nursery has exciting resources to enhance each child’s learning experience.

At around 10 am the children have a break and enjoy some fresh fruit and a drink.

Before lunch we do a group activity of phonics, numbers or story time.

The children enjoy lunch with their friends. They choose what they would like to eat and any specific dietary requirements are catered for.

After lunch the children have time to relax and then it is time for some fresh air and a run around.

The afternoon is a continuation of the morning’s activities. Children are encouraged to have a go at all of the activities on offer for the day. At the end of the day we all come together for a story.

During their time in the Nursery, the children are observed and assessed across the seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Throughout the year we particularly focus on developing their communication and language, their physical development and their personal, social and emotional skills.

The Nursery day finishes at 3.30pm and the children are picked up between 3.30 and 4pm. There is an option for children to stay for ‘After School Club’ which runs until 5.30pm. This is operated in the Nursery and children enjoy an additional snack and a drink.
