About Our School

The Richard Pate School is an outstanding independent day preparatory school and nursery for boys and girls aged 3 to 11 years.

Set in a beautiful 11-acre semi-rural site in Leckhampton on the outskirts of Cheltenham, it is a happy and aspirational school offering a love of learning, breadth of opportunity and a strong sense of community and fun.

My sincere thanks for taking the time to find out about our wonderful school. It is a community that I couldn’t be more grateful to be a part of, and a place that we are immensely proud of.

In my experience, when you step into a school or nursery building, you can often get a sense quite quickly as to whether or not it is a place where you feel a sense of belonging. Is there a warmth to the interactions? Is there a buzz of curiosity, learning and fun? Are staff enjoying being engaged with and celebrating the children? Does it feel as though children are absolutely at the heart of the organisation?

I found that from the first time I crossed the threshold into The Richard Pate School, I knew it was somewhere I wanted to be a part of. It is a school and nursery designed to serve the purpose of providing the very best version of learning in childhood. It offers children the breadth of opportunities needed to ensure rich experiences set in a warm, child-centred community. Those key ingredients ensure the pupils and families feel truly known, and children fulfil their potential.

We hope our website gives you a taste of what makes our school special. The majority of our children join in Nursery and from the age of three we aim to instil a joy of learning that follows them throughout their time with us and beyond. We have invested significantly in the school over the years and are very fortunate to benefit from specialist facilities including an art studio, science lab, music centre and floodlit astro. This allows our specialist staff to offer the children the broadest possible education.

We also take great pride in helping parents to choose the right onward destination to suit their particular child. In the last decade the children have transitioned to over 40 different schools with each suited to their own particular strengths and attributes. A large percentage gain places at top grammar schools or scholarships at independent senior schools. We also benefit from having outstanding state options nearby.

I hope you and your family enjoy discovering more about our community. There is little better way to do so than to come for a visit and experience it for yourselves.  Developing happy, confident, enthusiastic learners is what we all strive for so please do get in touch to book a visit and join me for a tour of the school.

With best wishes,

Sam Morgan
