Junior Enrichment

Challenge for all is a key part of our curriculum and we aim to ensure that all pupils receive quality academic enrichment opportunities across the curriculum. We encourage the application of taught skills and ensure that higher order thinking skills (HOTs) are embedded into subject teaching enabling pupils to analyse, evaluate and create.

We also carefully monitor and identify gifted and more able pupils across all subject areas ensuring that appropriate extension activities are put in place. These might involve problem solving, investigations or self-directed learning. Individuals who show a passion or interest for a particular area are encouraged to delve deeper into those topics and our highly experienced and specialist staff are very well equipped to enable this to happen.

We enter local and national competitions such as writing challenges, maths competitions and public speaking events and pupils take part in regular matches and tournaments at local and regional level in our major sports.

To further deepen the knowledge and understanding of each subject covered, we have a ‘Curriculum Focus’ programme. Each term a different subject from the curriculum is enhanced upon through a variety of exciting activities designed to stimulate interest and curiosity for that subject. Wonderful trips and a wide range of visitors also enhance each focus period. This varied approach recognises that we all learn differently and also offers opportunities for extension activities within the subject.

Our library at RPS is vibrant and well stocked with both fiction and non-fiction books.  All children visit the library and are encouraged to foster a love of reading by taking books home, whilst older children are introduced to using books for research and as a source of ideas. We make excellent use of technology to enhance our children’s learning; there is a very well-resourced Computing suite and banks of iPads which go into lessons to provide appropriate access to IT in all subjects.
