Richard Pate School Crest

The Richard Pate School, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

All children are taught to sing, play the recorder and develop keyboard skills in the class music sessions. In addition, composition, improvisation and listening skills are encouraged as part of the ongoing music curriculum.

The choir performs regularly, sings Choral Evensong in Gloucester Cathedral and invariably participates with distinction in the Cheltenham Competitive Festival. A team of peripatetic music teachers offer tuition on a range of musical instruments. When children gain sufficient fluency on their instruments, they are offered the opportunity to play in an appropriate ensemble or join the orchestra.

“Pupils have developed a strong spiritual awareness and show high levels of self esteem. They show considerable poise when, for instance, they sing in the choir or give musical recitals.”
